A Message From the Director of 21st Century Education

As the Director of 21st Century Education, I am proud to support this district in our quest to provide optimal educational experiences for Somerville staff and your children. I am excited for the upcoming school year and I am honored to serve this district as an advocate for technology integration in education, professional development, and student achievement.

This year, Somerville Middle School and Somerville High School students will continue our 1:1 Chromebook program.  We are also excited to implement a 1:1 Chromebook program for all VanDerveer Elementary School students in grades 3-5.  Staff and students will use our Chromebook programs and their Google Apps for Education accounts to engage in collaborative 21st Century learning activities, explore the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS), enhance college and career readiness skills, and complete PARCC assessments.

It is important that we work together to teach children how to be responsible technology users, contributors, and creators.  The Somerville Public School District has made great progress in providing a technology rich learning environment for staff and students. I am excited to continue this tradition and build upon these programs to ensure students have the opportunities necessary to communicate, create, and thrive as connected citizens. Thank you for your continued support in your child's education.

With Appreciation,

Melissa McEntee
